Robotics, the study and technology of how machines (robot) can work well to carry out traditional human activities. It is defined as the application of science and technology to solve practical problems in the practical world. Robotics is used all around us from manufacturing to healthcare.
Robotics, engineering, design, and use of artificially intelligent machines (artificial intelligent robots) to do tasks usually done by human beings. Robotic software is often used for activities like inventory control, food preparation, picking plants, vacuuming, etc. Robotic equipment is also used in manufacturing industries for tasks such as welding, metal work, auto assembly, etc. Robotics is extensively used in these industries because they need to work safely in dangerous working environments. The main components of robotics are hardware, software, and data.
There has been much research in the past and still going on about the various applications of robotics. One application of robotics is physical robotics. Physical robotics is used to describe a variety of tasks that robots can do. These might include picking crops, unloading trucks, picking fruit, digging ditches, picking up pieces of waste, unloading trucks, picking up a piece of rubble, picking up an injured person, picking up a piece of debris, etc.
Another application of robotics technology is artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is the study of systems and intelligent computer programs that can achieve specific goals. For example, an artificially intelligent computer program could be programmed to play chess, to navigate through a city, to win the lottery, to understand natural language, to remember what is on the t.v. screen, etc.
A third application of robotics technology is transportation. This is particularly interesting because it applies both to human-robot interaction and to robot-human interaction. In fact, robotic vehicles have already been seen on the open road in the United States. Similarly, there are now android robotic devices which are very similar to your average smart phone. The two fields of robotic and artificial intelligence are quickly moving together and creating new and exciting possibilities for the future. In fact, I believe these three areas of robotics research and development are going to have a tremendous effect on society over the next several decades and possibly well into the future.
As you can see from the above article, there are three major areas of robotics research and development currently active and advancing. These areas are Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. Of course there are also many sub-fields of robotics, such as sensors and scanners, safety measures, power generation, personal aerial vehicles, welding, manufacturing, aerospace, mechanics, assembly, environmental cleanup, entertainment, packaging, food service, transportation, agriculture, etc. As time goes on I expect the number of areas in which robotics technologies are applied will continue to grow as technology becomes more advanced and sophisticated. Therefore, I think you will see many more applications in future years for both humans and artificially intelligent robotic androids.
